SAFETY REQUIREMENTS WITHIN THE WIND INDUSTRY

Safely working is an essential spearhead within the Wind industry. In addition to the official regulations that must be met, organizations have to deal with increasing demands from clients. For companies working in this sector, it is not always clear which conditions employees must meet. In this article we would like to explain the distinction between the legally imposed safety requirements in the Wind industry and those of the client.

Working Conditions Act

The Working Conditions Act is leading within the Wind Industry. This states that the client (or employer) must ensure the safety and health of employees (Article 3). In addition, the client is obliged to provide education and information (Article 8).

Global Wind Organization (GWO)

In addition to health and safety legislation, you can also be exposed to GWO standards in the wind industry. This depends on the client's requirements. Every client has made his own risk assessment evaluation of what risks there are at the workplace. A difference in training / opinion can therefore arise from this. A component that the GWO standard does not yet cover is helicopter transport to the offshore wind turbines.

During hoisting, dangerous situations can arise. Because of this, some employees have to follow a GWO training and in addition an additional HUET training (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) with a Nogepa or Opito certificate.

Conclusion

Under the Working Conditions Act you must be able to demonstrate that all your employees have received sufficient information to be able to perform their duties. Within the Wind industry, the requirements are largely determined by the client.
